Founders of PartPlay, Phil and Steve are also professional violinists, and have recorded several duos for the PartPlay website. Steve has also recorded all 44 of the Bartók Duos, playing both violin parts!

Philip Aird

Phil is Chief Executive of European String Teachers Association, Director of Young Grittleton Chamber Music Courses and a member of the Royal Ballet Sinfonia.

As a freelancer he has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

He also loves musicals and has played in the West End for Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, Carousel, Showboat, West Side Story and  numerous recordings for film, TV and disc.

Phil’s interests include rugby, travel and vintage port!

Steve Bingham

Steve Bingham studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music, where he won prizes for orchestral leading and string quartet playing. In 1985 he formed the Bingham String Quartet, an ensemble which has become one of the foremost in the UK, with an enviable reputation for both classical and contemporary repertoire.

Steve has appeared as guest leader with many orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, English National Ballet and English Sinfonia and has given solo recitals both in the UK and America. Steve is also a conductor of some repute and is currently principal conductor of Ely Sinfonia, the City of Peterborough Symphony Orchestra and the Ad Hoc Sinfonia.

Steve is internationally renowned for his solo violin recitals, where he mixes acoustic pieces with live-looped electric violin arrangements in his own uniques way. Steve has released four solo albums, “Duplicity”, “Ascension”, “Third” and “The Persistence Of Vision”, alongside many single tracks.

Steve’s interests include ornithology, photography and Celtic knotwork.
