How to use the main PartPlay player

Welcome to the unique PartPlay interface!

Our specially designed player allows you to hear chamber music like never before – picking different combinations of instruments to suit your needs. It works slightly differently for various devices, so please take a look at the instructions below, which show exactly how to use PartPlay:

Laptop and Desktop computers

These devices allow full functionality of the interface as follows –

  • Find the piece you would like to listen to or play along with

If you’re not signed up yet you can click on the “Try now for free” button on the homepage. There are usually also one or two other free movements available – click on “Our Pieces” at the top of any page, and browse through the list looking for anything marked as free.

If you’re signed up you can browse though the “Our Pieces” list and all pieces available in your chosen plan will be clearly marked.

  • How to use the interface

Once you go to the page for your chosen piece you will see something like this below the video:

This will vary for the number of instruments in the piece, but the basic controls are very simple and easy to use. They are;

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.04.59   Mute any specific part or combination of parts

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.05.23   Change the overall volume

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.05.29   Go full screen

Click the ‘1x speed’ button to show the ‘0.8 speed’ option on many pieces. Click to load the appropriate speed

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.05.41   Drag this bar, and pull either end to expand or contract in order to define a loop section

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.06.07   Click to turn the selected loop section on or off. When loop is on the defined loop area changes colour

Screen Shot 2016-06-15 at 11.06.28   Playback position indicator: This can be dragged, or just click on the playback line to move to that position

Tablets and Smartphones

These devices allow limited functionality of the interface (due to processing power and memory limits) as follows –

Once you go to the page for your chosen piece you will see a still of the video with a central play button on a white background. Once you click this button a window opens which gives you a choice of all the instruments within the chosen piece. By clicking on one of the instruments you will be taken to the video of the piece with that instrument muted, so that you can play along. These videos load within the native video player for your device, which will have standard controls for play, pause, volume, full screen, fast forward and rewind.

  • What’s not available on tablets and smartphones?

We recommend laptop and desktop machines, as – due to the limited resources in tablets and smartphones – the following functionality of the full PartPlay interface is currently not available on these devices: multiple solo or mute of different parts and looping of sections of the piece.
